Le Quatuor d’occasion, quatuor à cordes dédié à la musique improvisée, s’est réuni pour la première fois en 2011 à l’invitation de Malcolm Goldstein.
Qu’on l’appelle improvisation libre ou composition collective ad hoc, un tel procédé doit sa réussite à la capacité d’écoute et à l’inventivité des musiciens aussi bien qu’à leur désir de participer aux différents plans de l’œuvre qui se déploie; il faut savoir tenir le haut du pavé, jouer un rôle de soutien aussi bien que se taire.
Le 14 mars 2014, on a installé quatre chaises en rond dans ma chambre à coucher. Josh a apporté ses bons micros. Spontanément ou à ma suggestion, je ne sais plus, on a joué une série de courtes pièces.
Voici donc le fruit d’une demi-journée d’improvisations entrecoupées de conversations (enregistrées, mais vous ne les entendrez pas). Tout est là: chronologiquement, sincèrement. - Jean René

The Quatuor d’occasion is a string quartet dedicated to improvised music: the members came together for the first time in 2011 at the invitation of Malcolm Goldstein.
Whether viewed as free improvisation or ad hoc collective composition, such an approach owes its success to the listening abilities and inventiveness of the musicians involved, as well as to their desire to participate in the instantaneous creation of the composition as it unfolds; they must know how to keep the upper hand, know when to play a supporting role and know also when to keep silent.
On March 14, 2014, we made a circle of four chairs in my bedroom. Josh brought his good microphones.
I can’t recall if it happened spontaneously or if I suggested it, but we played a series of short pieces.
Here is the result of a half-day of improvisations interspersed with conversations (recorded but that you will not hear.)
